The Velour Wonder: lululemon Retro Lounge Pants

Retro Lounge PantsThere are two types of people in this world. Those who love velour sweat pants, and those who don’t. I’m proud to say that I’m fully committed to the rich, luscious texture of velvet, and the subtle stretch that makes them velour. Om.

lululemon ventured into the velour arena in 2006 and caused quite a stir with their Retro Lounge Pants. These pants, a full length, tacky lounge pant, were clearly inspired by the Juicy Couture school of design. The pants came with a matching jacket if you felt you could rock the head to toe velvet look.

A few months ago the factory outlet was packed to the brim with these puppies, suggesting that I may well have been the only person that loved them so much. They came in a neon sort of green, a dark purple, a chocolate brown, and a shiny black. All styles had a contrasting band of piping that ran down the outside of the leg. The bum and waist were fitted, and the leg relaxed.

While I wouldn’t wear these pants for yoga or any activity that might cause you to perspire, they are a fantastically warm and comfortable pant that’s great for throwing on to or from the gym. They also make the perfect study pant - as they are cozy and have lots of stretch.

Word of the wise, the velour can wear out. I wore mine for about ten days straight, while studying for my 4th year Econ finals, and they definitely showed it. I like to pretend I paid extra for the distressed look.

Sadly, these pants are no longer available in lululemon stores. However, if you’re desperate for some velour action, I’m sure there is a Juicy Couture tracksuit out there with your name on it!
